Jola Wieczorek ist eine österreichische Dokumentarfilmemacherin polnischer Herkunft. Sie absolvierte den internationalen Masterstudiengang für Dokumentarfilmregie «DOC Nomads», der sie nach Lissabon, Budapest und Brüssel führte. In ihren Filmen setzt sie sich mit Themen wie Migration, Erinnerung und Identität auseinander. Ihre Arbeiten werden regelmäßig auf internationalen Filmfestivals gezeigt und ausgezeichnet. 2023 wurde sie mit dem Outstanding Artist Award des österreichischen Bundesministeriums geehrt.
Jury-Statement: In die nomadischen Biografien ihrer Protagonist:innen hat Jola Wieczorek das Politische eingeschrieben – sie sind Reisende zwischen den Welten, Sprachen, und Kulturen, auf der Suche nach einem Zuhause, welches schlussendlich nur ein Sehnsuchtsort bleibt, eine Utopie.
Die Filmemacherin Wieczorek unternimmt Expeditionen an Orte, die zu Brennpunkten werden, an denen sie mit außergewöhnlicher Sensibilität für Sprache eine filmische Spurensuche betreibt, komplexe Prozesse des Erinnerns verhandelt oder an Lebensläufen deren zeitgeschichtliche Dimension freilegt.
Gleichzeitig überlagern sich in Wieczoreks Filmen mehrere Ebenen, hier ist das Dokumentarische kein Abbild der Realität, sondern spricht eine eigene, künstlerische Sprache von Erleben und Erinnern, Erfahren und Reflektieren. Ihr Blick ist präzise beobachtend, sie arbeitet essayistisch mittels Tagebuch oder autofiktionalen Briefen und hat mit Stilsicherheit ihre eigene dokumentarische Handschrift entwickelt.
